Growing up my family would have Shabbat dinner. On Fridays my mom would make a challah. She’d put a little honey on it. Sometimes raisins. It was always soft and warm and good. We’d light candles, say a prayer over sweet wine and the challah, and then dig in to some kind of chicken. When I went out into the world on my own, I left those traditions behind. Now that I have my own family, I have since gathered them up again. Well, for the most part. Instead of chicken we have pepperoni pizza — which is, um, NOT a traditional Jewish meal.🙄 I’m not #nextlevel like my mom where I can just whip one up every Friday, but challah is a fairly common bread. I can almost always pick one up at the grocery. The other day I got a take and bake ciabatta from Target. It was great. The kids loved it. So much so that Nola said, “Maybe instead of challah, we can just have ciabatta bread. We can call it Shabbatta bread.”
My work here is done.
