SOLIDARI-TEA
So how’s your pandemic going?
It’s extraordinary how fast things can change. Five days ago I was at Target picking up some things and trying to score some hand sanitizer. Now I’m in self-isolation with my family trying to homeschool my children. I have a new appreciation for teachers and personal space.
But I digress.
I have come upon ZOOM, an app that allows you to video chat on any platform/device. It’s pretty cool. And it’s free.
- you sign up
- download the software
- set a date for a meeting
- send the link to your friends/family/support group/therapist/etc
- voilá!
I don’t know enough about it other than to tell you it’s super easy to use and it works. I’d suggest using your desktop or laptop because of the larger screen real estate, but it will work on your smartphone, too.
The user-interface is well-designed. It’s simple. Anyone can figure it out and use it.
Originally I thought I could try it with our neighbors in order to get together for afternoon tea. Because I can’t help myself I called it…
SOLIDARI-TEA
And then I thought how I could post a link on Facebook to my all my friends and have a giant tea party.
But then I thought how that’s a lot of people all talking at once and that’s not my thing. I’ve been social distancing my entire life.
So then I thought how anyone anywhere for any reason at any time could do this. Groups of friends, families, extended families, churches, temples, support groups, senior centers, classrooms, playdates, etc.
In theory, among your group, you could have a set meeting everyday at 3 to get together for tea. No agenda. Just check in and have some tea. Or maybe it’s something called RECESS and everyone in your kid’s classroom can yell and scream and laugh together.
You get my point.
We’re all in this together. This is a great way to stay close and keep your distance.

Note: I do NOT work for ZOOM. I just thought their product was super cool and could help a lot of people who are really scared and lonely right now.
