Ella has/had horse camp this week. It’s 40–50 minutes there, and back, and there, and back again. Not gonna sugarcoat it, it’s a pain in the ass. Literally. That’s three hours of driving each day. However, I’ve recently discovered the awesome How I Built This podcast and it actually makes the trip not unpleasant.
Oh, there is one other thing that makes the trip not unpleasant… Ella. The girl is SO FREAKING HAPPY to be with horses.
“Thank you so much for taking me today. It was the best day ever!”
Yesterday (Wednesday) just before noon we got a call from her camp saying that the session for the week was OVER… one of the campers had come down with Covid.
Gah!
I picked Ella up from camp. It was a quiet ride home. But then once it hit her in the afternoon, there were A LOT of tears…
“DADDY, I LOVE THE HORSES SO MUCH!”
Ella went through the various stages of grief, although there was a lot of focus on anger. At one point she was furious at the Covid kid. I quickly explained how who knows where the kid got it. Maybe their mom or dad or older sibling went to Lollapalooza and brought it home. Maybe their neighbors were just in Florida. And sure, it’s possible…
