DUNE 2K21 — New Arrakis Playset
With Real Sand and Smoked Paprika (Fremen Sold Separately)
I don’t know from Dune. I know it’s a book, and a movie from the 80s with Sting. And there’s something about spice. But that’s all I know.
That said, I saw the most recent Dune on HBO a couple weeks ago. It was good. Slow, but intriguing. Very cinematic with its desert world landscapes and quiet spacecraft, plus all the costumery and fancy sound design. I liked it.
Friends of mine saw it on HBO, too, but wanted to see it in the theater as well. They wanted to take their 10 and 8 year old girls, and asked if I wanted to bring my 11yo daughter. I was hesitant because my unvaccinated daughter is a double masker. I didn’t know how comfortable she’d be in a public space. Of course, I didn’t know how I’d feel either. It’s been more than two years since I’ve been in a movie theater what with the pandemic and my own growing insularity.
The other reason I was hesitant was because — um, is Dune even for kids? My daughter kept referring to it as Dunc — but then I noticed the font.
