Awakenings
Our neighbor is a cardiologist. He’s also a really great guy. Kind, thoughtful, smart. He’s always reading books on how to better himself and be more productive. He takes classes and listens to podcasts to do the same. It’s all very #nextlevel. He’s a way better person than I’ll ever be.
But I digress.
He’s great with Judah. Very patient and gentle. He actually enjoys Judah’s relentless barrage of questions…
‘How big is the heart?’
‘How much does it weigh?’
‘Where does blood come from?’
‘How does the heart know to pump?’
‘Is the heart the same kind of muscle in your arm?’
‘What is blood pressure?’
Judah, seemingly, has an interest in the medical field. He has been aiding Nurse Hilary (at his school) for years. He likes to help make the ice packs, which are wet paper towels placed in a ziplock, which is then placed in the freezer. (I’m sure Nurse Hilary has other more official ice packs as well.)
To Judah’s credit, he’s ALWAYS willing to get his medical kit (toy) and examine you (squeeze, palpate), provide a diagnosis (usually dramatized), and follow up with a treatment (surprisingly appropriate). Further, as a kid who gets bloody noses, he’s able to pass his knowledge on to the next person.
