or CommUNITY
I went to church today. Well, first I went to synagogue, picked up some 8th graders, and then went to church; specifically New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist church on Washington.
Backstory: In 2015 the Charleston Church massacre occurred. New Mount Pilgrim on the West side of Chicago put out a call for understanding and healing among religious affiliations. Oak Park Temple’s Rabbi Weiss answered that call and developed a friendship with Rev Marshall Hatch. Ever since then the two congregational leaders have helped create a serviceable social action group as well as a community credit union.
(Yeah, it’s some pretty next level ‘not all heroes wear capes’ stuff.)
They’ve also created a kind of partnership where Pastor Hatch will come deliver a sermon to our synagogue and Rabbi…
