A Capitol Tour

I went to Des Moines this past weekend to help my dad and brother choose a headstone for my mom. But that’s another story and can be found here…

While in Des Moines I decided to go to the capitol and take a tour. Why? Well, I’d never been. I’m innately proud of that beautiful building with the shiny gold dome, but I’ve always just taken it for granted.

It must have been an off day. Maybe it was just the time I went, but I essentially got my own personal tour. The guy’s name was Bob. Handsome enough fellah. Full head of hair, high thread count. Maybe a few years younger than me.

“If you want,” he said. “I can take you up to the dome. Like the top of the dome. You have to sign a waiver, though.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, it’s totally safe, not that big a deal. A lot of stairs, though. You just have to sign the waiver.”

“Ok, no prob. Is there a zip line?”

“A zip line?”

“You know, like to the ground?”
